Carolyn has been training teachers in Iyengar Yoga in San Diego since 1996. She offers several modalities:

Iyengar Yoga Training Program
3-year program offered through the Iyengar Yoga Association of Southern California. Designed for sincere students to deepen their understanding of Iyengar Yoga and/or to provide groundwork for becoming a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher.

On-Going Training for Teachers

Open to teachers of all levels. Open classroom environment facilitating and enhancing the depth of understanding of yoga study for teachers, incorporating the lifestyle. Strong emphasis on developing observation skills, as well as corrections & adjustments. Hands on, how to study and integrate practice and teaching. Includes junior level and above prep. Scottsdale Community College

Training Intensive day sessions designed to guide students and teachers on a steady path of practicing and teaching yoga. Incorporates elements from above programs. Mentorship/Apprenticeship

Includes regular attendance at the Centers classes. Continual guidance given. Often, participation is in addition to above programs.

Iyengar Yoga Therapeutics Apprenticeship

Regular attendance at Center classes and Therapeutics class. Monthly meets, provides continual training in this art.

Teacher Training Curriculum

Objective:
To provide a firm foundation in the practice of yoga, and the art of teaching this sacred subject as defined and established by Yogacharya Iyengar , and in abidance with the Certification Manual of IYNAUS.
Practice:
Sessions to be practiced are given to guide the teacher trainer in proficiency in the poses on the syllabus of study as well as at a level beyond each syllabus. Elements of how to practice, timings, actions, props, modifications, for individuals’ needs is covered for both Asana & Pranayama.
Asana & Pranayama Study for Teaching:
In-depth study of asana and pranayama both actively (in practice) and passively in study of Iyengar Texts is provided. Understanding of elements of the actions of asana as well as direction, point of gravity is covered.
Art of Sequencing:
Sequencing within an asana, sequencing to introduce an asana, as well as creating sequences for practice and a class is covered. Understanding of sequencing as set out in Light on Yoga, Light on Pranayama, Yoga Gem for Women, and Preliminary Guide Course is covered per level of study and practice.
Teaching Practicum:
Practice and exercises in the art of teaching Iyengar Yoga is performed. Feedback to guide the teacher towards the ethics, direction and rhythm of teaching Iyengar yoga. The art of instruction, observation and building and linking is covered as well as other principles of teaching this method.
Modifications , Corrections , Adjustments:
Correct use of props , how to correct and how to make adjustments are practiced. How to create intelligent use of prop to transform practice.
Mentorship:
Attendance in class at the level of study to teach as well as at the level of practice is required. Taking , observing as well as assisting in class is required at appropriate times and durations. Guidance too meet individual needs is provided to keep the firm foundation of practice established.
Anatomy and Physiology:
Covered as per syllabus in manual. Western and eastern views are discussed.
Philosophy:
Study and discussion of texts per syllabus is covered as well as beyond to give a firm foundation of understanding of the School of Philosophy of Yoga. Major texts are studied including Yoga Sutras of Patanajali, Bhagavad Gita, and those written by the Iyengars.
Well Being:
Living the life of a yoga Practitioner and Teacher: Ethics , Ayurvedic principles for well being, as well as discussions on the role of yoga
practice and teaching in one?s life is covered.
Levels:
The above curriculum is provided for Intro , Junior and Senior levels as set out by B.K.S.Iyengar.
