Stan has always been an athlete, playing basketball, football and swimming in high school and college. 35 years later, he still plays League and pickup games and attributes his ability to do so to his Iyengar Yoga practice.
He’s been practicing yoga since 1976, at first out of a book given to him by a friend, while a student at La Salle College in his hometown of Philadelphia. “My body really changed for the better. Yoga is difficult for me, so if I hadn’t seen the benefits I wouldn’t stay with it.” He first noticed extra energy and describes the way he felt as “amazingly light.” He was hooked.
His practice changed course about 10 years ago when he discovered Iyengar Yoga. “Everyone else was doing crude stretches. Iyengar was more meditative, with more concentration and focus. I made more progress in the last 10 years with Iyengar yoga, because of the depth,” than the prior 25 years. He’s successfully completed the rigorous, as well as in-depth, three-year Iyengar Yoga Teacher Training Program in San Diego.
A natural teacher, Stan has always passed on his knowledge to other atheletes. During the past year, Stan taught yoga to the SDS Aztec football and La Crosse teams. “Yoga is a golden ticket. Just keep a good practice going, good alignment and keep it fresh.”
