Teen Yoga Classes are starting this spring in 4-week sessions during March and April at Iyengar Yoga North County. The yoga for kids classes are Monday afternoons from 4:30 to 5:15, for kids aged 12 to 15. Kids 16 years old and up are welcome to join the regular adult classes at Iyengar Yoga North County.
The first session begins March 4th and runs through March 25th. The April session is April 8th thru the 29th. The cost for 4 classes is $40. Teens are welcome to try one class for $10. IYNC offers a two-for-one deal for siblings. As director Carolyn Belko says, ‘There’s no reason for a sibling to sit on the sidelines and watch the class - yoga for kids should be available to everyone.’
Teen Yoga for Kids Enhance Sports Participation
Yoga is a popular adjunct to sports like surfing, skateboarding, and soccer. Students find that yoga enhances their flexibility and balance, as well as contributing to a calm and centered state of mind. Recent studies have shown that yoga for kids helps teens improve mood and their ability to control anxiety, anger and fatigue.
Deanna Cramer, a 10-year veteran of Iyengar yoga with 15-years teaching art in San Diego private schools, will be leading the classes. She is a graduate of the 3-year Iyengar Teacher Training program and also teaches Level 1 adult classes at the Center. Classes for kids and teens are more active than the adult classes.
In addition to the teen sessions, yoga for kids aged 7 to 12 are held on Wednesday afternoons from 4:00pm to 4:45pm. Siblings are welcome to attend at the two-for-one rate for these classes as well. The Kids Yoga classes are on-going monthly and are pretty popular classes.
Registration is available online, as well as in person at the Center. All equipment, including mats, are provided but students are welcome to bring their own mats. Shorts and tees are appropriate dress. Yoga is practiced barefoot; students leave their shoes inside the door. Come a few minutes early to register before the first class.
